A Continuing Care Risk Management (CCRM) member recently asked for guidance regarding security personnel carrying defense tools, such as pepper spray, handcuffs, and ASP batons. CCRM’s response focuses on the use of defense tools rather than items that are primarily designed for use as weapons.

Security officers should be trained in the use of all equipment that they carry.
