PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA—ECRI Institute, one of the nation's leading patient safety and medical technology research organizations, is pleased to announce that Ronni Solomon, JD, is named chief policy and external affairs officer and executive vice president. This new role strengthens the nonprofit organization's dedication to advancing effective, evidence-based healthcare.

Solomon is responsible for developing strategic opportunities and relationships in the public and private sectors consistent with ECRI Institute's mission and vision to advance effective, evidence based care. She oversees ECRI Institute's external affairs programs, including policy initiatives, government relations, alliances, and legal and regulatory affairs.

"I am particularly pleased that Ronni is leading our efforts in this policy arena. As ECRI Institute continues to develop new ways to improve the safety and effectiveness of healthcare, we look forward to contributing to the public dialogue and working with a broader set of stakeholders on innovative solutions to the most pressing safety, quality, and technology concerns," says Marcus Schabacker, MD, PhD, president and CEO, ECRI Institute.

Solomon has held senior roles at ECRI Institute including serving as executive vice president and general counsel. She brings extensive experience in building and shaping important programs that improve healthcare quality and safety across the continuum of care. She developed and led ECRI Institute initiatives and programs for the public and private sectors and forged partnerships and alliances.

“Medical error remains the third leading cause of death in hospitalized patients[1], and consumers are inundated with misinformation about clinical effectiveness and cost," says Solomon. “ECRI Institute's respected work on understanding technology, contextualizing the evidence, and knowing what enables and disables patient safety needs to reach the policy and healthcare communities on a deeper level. I am excited to lead this effort."
