PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA—What are hospital equipment purchasers saying about the newest CT scanner on the market? Does an operating room manager have a strong opinion, good or bad, about the performance of the surgical lights in the Hybrid OR? Now, purchasers and users of medical technologies have an instant online forum to rate and review technologies they are using, with Rate This Model, the newest enhancement to the SELECTplus suite of capital decision support solutions from ECRI Institute.
The new interactive Rate This Model feature looks and acts just like the popular online user reviews used by consumer travel and shopping sites, offering reviewers a five-star ranking system and comment boxes within which to share their insights about a particular product. A buyer of complicated, expensive medical technologies now has an additional resource to help inform the purchase process—one based on real user experience by the peer community.
"This online feature puts product reviews and ratings right where our members need them most─in our S+ Market Analytics Tool™ where they go daily to see key market analytics like top models and manufacturers, market share, and average quoted pricing on products they are considering," says Jennifer L. Myers, ECRI Institute's vice president of SELECT Health Technology Services.
"Not only can members see how their peers rated a technology, they can quickly contribute their own ratings and comments. This is the first time we've made feedback so instant," says Myers.
When accessing Rate This Model, members will see the total number of users who have reviewed a product and a simple bar graph which shows the spread of ratings, i.e. how many five- star ratings, versus lower ratings. Users rate technologies on the following criteria:
Ease of use
"Developing a sharing community online is just one more way that we can help hospitals and other healthcare providers make safe, cost-effective purchasing decisions," adds Myers.
Rate This Model expands ECRI Institute's proven suite of technology decision-making tools and personalized services that help hospital leaders achieve immediate cost savings without compromising patient care. Healthcare organizations worldwide rely on ECRI Institute's nearly 50 years of experience delivering strategic, evidence-based technology management guidance from selection and purchasing to maintenance and replacement.
