Patient Resources

ECRI Institute's researchers conduct unbiased, objective technical assessments on drugs, devices, and medical procedures for hospitals, government agencies, and health plans which are available through paid membership programs. As part of our mission to improve patient care, we also believe that patients should have access to reliable medical resources and safety information and have provided a number of free resources on our website.

ECRI Institute’s Vision for a National Patient Library

ECRI Institute believes that a new independent organization, perhaps named the National Patient Library, could contribute to making healthcare more patient-centered and evidence-based. It could do so by collecting, commissioning, certifying the quality of, and communicating without charge, findings from research on the effectiveness and comparative effectiveness of health services as well as on tools for shared decision making.

Although the National Patient Library would require public financing, achieving and maintaining public confidence in its work would require that it be functionally independent from government as well as from professional, provider, payer and commercial interest groups and advocacy organizations.
