Webinar | Top 10 Health Technology Hazards for 2020 and How to Prevent Them

February 12, 2020

Overview

ECRI’s annual list of top 10 health technology hazards can help you prioritize your attention for the coming year. The list highlights problems that the organization's engineers, physicians, nurses, and other researchers have determined can occur, can lead to patient harm, and—importantly—can be prevented if appropriate measures are taken.

ECRI Institute's experts nominate topics for consideration based on their own expertise and insight gained through:

  • Investigating incidents
  • Testing medical devices in the ECRI labs
  • Observing operations and assessing hospital practices
  • Reviewing literature
  • Collaborating with clinicians, clinical engineers, purchasing staff, health systems administrators, and device suppliers

We also consider the thousands of health-technology-related problem reports that we receive through our Problem Reporting Network, as well as through data that participating facilities share with our patient safety organization, ECRI Institute PSO.

Learning Objectives

We’ll discuss the purpose of the list, provide behind-the-scenes details about the topic-selection process, and review the topics included for 2020. We’ll look deeper into several of the 2020 hazards, reviewing why they made the list and the action steps to prevent harm. Attendees will have opportunities to pose questions about the list and topics of interest.
