John Reiss, PhD, JD, has served as chairman of the ECRI Institute Board of Trustees since 2000, and started as a board member in 1993.
Reiss is vice president and general counsel of Doylestown Hospital, serving in-house since June 2013 and as outside counsel for some 30 years prior to that. He was a partner at the law firms of Saul Ewing and Dechert for 30 years.
His earlier health care experiences include director, Office of Health Regulation at HHS, and assistant commissioner, New Jersey Department of Health, where he designed the state’s experimental hospital DRG payment system, and was responsible for other regulatory programs including nursing home payments, health planning, certificate of need and the state health data system.
Previously, Reiss was associate professor of economics at Stockton State College, NJ, and an assistant professor of economics at Allegheny College, PA.
Reiss came to the United States from England in 1963. He earned his PhD from Washington University in St. Louis and his JD from Temple University in the night program. He has edited and written numerous books and articles, and has received many recognitions.
